🌸 ฅ՞•ﻌ•՞ฅ Hi girlies!

Hope you had a nice day off for Veterans Day and took a moment to honor those who are still with us! This week I wanted to highlight several opportunities I’ve been finding, and I created another section called “Important Ones/fully funded opportunties ” where you should definitely apply. All of them are important, but please make sure to check those out first!

We also launched our own scholarship with educations.com! No GPA requirement, no fee to enter. The Social Science Excellence Scholarship was created to support students pursuing degrees in sociology, psychology, anthropology, political science, economics, and social work. This collaboration combines the global reach of educations.com with the student-led community of Girls on Campus.

We are especially focused on applicants who show strong academic potential, leadership, and a desire to use their education to create positive change.

Amount: $1,500 (paid directly toward tuition or institutional fees).

Eligibility: Open to students worldwide who are applying to a program listed in the educations.com Social Science directory. Both U.S. and international students are welcome.

Make sure to check out the free resources section on our site — just scroll down a little for downloadable templates, guides, and more. if there’s another free resource you’d love for us to create, please comment or email us at [email protected].

and don’t skip the advice column this week — it’s all about how to think like a strategist when applying so your story stands out. 🌸

This Week’s Reflection: Why find a coach instead of a mentor

This week, I was reading about coaches, and how in a sales pitch, a coach is the person who helps you get the deal done. And this is exactly the part that I think is so useful for students because coaches exist everywhere — professors, mentors, supervisors, club leaders, even older students who have been through the same process. The book explains that you can win deals much faster if you have someone on the inside who wants you to win. Same thing with opportunities.

A coach is someone who guides you through the process quietly, gives you insight you wouldn’t have had, and tells you what actually matters behind the scenes. They help you understand what the selection committee is looking for, what mistakes to avoid, and where the real decision-making happens. And this is why finding a coach matters: because you stop guessing. You stop writing applications in the dark. You start understanding the psychology of the person who is judging your application.

The book also explains how to identify a coach. A real coach wants you to win because your win also reflects well on them. They share information without you forcing it. They naturally give advice like “Make sure you talk about X,” or “People usually mess up Y,” or “If I were you, I’d highlight this.” They usually speak from experience, not theory. And they’re never threatened by your success — they actually get excited by it. The book says a coach is rarely the decision-maker, but they have influence with the decision-maker. They know the informal rules, they know the culture, and they know how to help you position yourself.

A coach is not someone who does the work for you, and they’re not someone you’re begging for help. They show up naturally because they genuinely want you to do well. The book says you can usually tell you’ve found a coach because they start giving you “insider language,” small cues, or insights that help you move with more confidence. Think of those professors who tell you, “Mention your leadership experience, committees love that,” or a mentor who says, “When I applied, the essay mattered more than the GPA,” or a supervisor who says, “Frame it like this, that’s what recruiters pay attention to.” These are coaches. hehehe in a way Girls on campus might also be your coach 😋

So in your applications, your networking, your internships, even your scholarships — look for the coach. Find the person who will help you see what you can’t see on your own. Because once you understand the psychology behind why people choose certain candidates, you start writing, speaking, and presenting yourself differently. And that’s when things start clicking.

Does your car insurance cover what really matters?

Not all car insurance is created equal. Minimum liability coverage may keep you legal on the road, but it often won’t be enough to cover the full cost of an accident. Without proper limits, you could be left paying thousands out of pocket. The right policy ensures you and your finances are protected. Check out Money’s car insurance tool to get the coverage you actually need.
