ᰔ Hi girlies! Remote Roles, Real Growth: Opportunities You Can Do From Anywhere
The newsletter for the girlies with college and career advice!

ᰔ ฅ՞•ﻌ•՞ฅ Hi girlies!
This week’s newsletter is all about remote opportunities like internships, part-time jobs, fellowships, and volunteer roles you can do from anywhere. We’ve been getting so many questions in the advice column about how to gain experience without having to move or worry about transportation. So this week, I’m answering your top questions and sharing a full list of remote openings just for you 🫶🏽
Remote roles truly open doors. I did a remote externship when it was still free and got $500 for completing it. It taught me so much about working with real teams and feeling confident in a professional setting. I also earned Bloomberg Finance certifications by joining a Latina career club called ALPFA. Later on, during an internship interview, they asked me about those certifications and it helped me stand out, even though I didn’t have a ton of experience yet
Whether you’re in high school, college, or just graduated, these kinds of opportunities can help you build your resume, explore new paths, and show up prepared for whatever comes next. And the best part is you can do it all from home or campus, on your own schedule
Keep reading for a curated list of low-competition opportunities, upcoming deadlines, and tips to make your applications stronger. You’ve got this 💌

Advice Column 💌
Q: I don’t have any experience yet. Can I still apply to internships?
A: Absolutely. A lot of programs are meant for beginners. Show your interest, effort, and anything you’ve done — like school clubs, Canva flyers, tutoring your siblings, or starting a small project. Everyone starts somewhere!
Q: What can I do remotely if I don’t want a full internship?
A: Try a remote externship, volunteer project, or even a certification program. They’re flexible, often low-time commitment, and still help your resume grow. You could also help a nonprofit with social media or outreach — it all counts.
We’re actually developing a certification program for students — more info coming soon! 🎓💻
Q: Are remote opportunities taken seriously by employers?
A: Yes! If you communicate well, meet deadlines, and work independently, you’re showing real-world skills. Many of us started with remote roles, and they definitely helped during job interviews and applications.
Q: How do I know if a remote opportunity is legit?
A: Research it first. Check if they have a website or LinkedIn, and a clear application — not just a DM or sketchy Google Form. Never pay to apply. And do not give out your Social Security number during the application. If it's a paid role, you'll only be asked for that when you're officially hired, along with a tax form.
Here’s what to expect:
W-2 form if you’re hired as an employee (taxes withheld)
1099-NEC form if it’s a freelance or stipend-based role (no taxes withheld)
No form for unpaid roles unless they give a stipend over $600
Q: What official documents should I have ready when applying to internships, jobs, or fellowships — no matter my age?
A: Here’s a quick list:
Resume (1 page is perfect — use Canva, Google Docs, or a clean template)
Transcript (unofficial is okay unless they say otherwise)
School enrollment proof (like a screenshot of your schedule or acceptance letter)
Work permit if you’re under 18 and the job requires it
Portfolio or writing sample (only if relevant)
Recommendation letter (optional but helpful for fellowships or research)
Optional: LinkedIn profile and any certifications you've completed (like Coursera, Google, or Bloomberg)
You don’t need all of these to start. Most orgs will tell you what they need — just begin with what you’ve got and keep building 💼
