ᰔ Hi girlies! So many applications are now open!!
The newsletter for the girlies with college and career advice!

ᰔ ฅ՞•ﻌ•՞ฅ Hi girlies!
Summer is around the corner, and many of you are graduating from high school or college … congratulations! You deserve it. 🎓✨
For those heading to college, we’ve got you! We'll be sharing more resources on how to prepare and afford college soon.
And for my fellow grads getting your bachelor's or master's — I’m graduating too, so we’re entering our big girl eratogether 💅
If you’ve already landed a job or offer, that’s amazing! But if you haven’t yet, please don’t give up. Companies are hiring — especially for internships and entry-level roles.
For international students:
Keep applying! Look for companies that explicitly sponsor or are open to CPT/OPT. Tap into your network, use LinkedIn filters, and don’t be afraid to reach out directly to recruiters. You’ve got this.
Pro tip: Reach out to startup founders! A lot of them are hiring but don’t always post public roles. If you can, try to attend startup or tech conferences — I might be going to one soon, so if you send me your resume, I might be able to pass it along to a founder if they’re hiring!
Also! We’re having our final San Francisco event before summer break…
RSVP Here: https://lu.ma/pi90y2cm
and our NYC event is happening in July! If you’re in the Bay or New York area, don’t miss it. Come network, learn, and celebrate all your wins!
This round of events is proudly sponsored by ScholistApp — your go-to platform for finding and tracking scholarships!

Advice Column 💌
If there’s one thing I’ve learned going from intern to grad to now stepping into my professional life, it’s that you do not have to wait until you feel ready to take that first step. I used to think I needed the perfect resume, the right title, or more experience before I could reach out to someone or apply to something big. But honestly, some of the best opportunities I have gotten came just because I asked, even when I was unsure or felt like I was not enough yet.
If you are trying to build your network or get your foot in the door, I want you to know you can do it and you do not have to do it alone. One thing that helped me was using LinkedIn in a very specific way. I would search a company I was curious about, like Amazon, then go to the "People" tab and look at who works there. If someone’s profile said "2nd connection," that meant we had a mutual connection. That gave me a little more confidence to message them.
When I reached out, I kept the message respectful and simple. I would say something like
Hi [Name], I came across your profile while learning more about [company or team], and I really admire how you built your path in [industry]. I am currently exploring similar roles and would be grateful for any insights you are open to sharing. If you would be willing to chat for 15 minutes sometime, I would really appreciate it. Either way, thank you for sharing your story."
I kept it genuine and low pressure.
Sometimes people responded and sometimes they did not. If they didn’t, I would follow up once after a few days just in case they missed it. People are busy and it is not personal if they do not get back to you.
And here's something that made a big difference: building a personal website. I created mine with Canva, no coding needed, and I recommend it to every student who wants to stand out. It shows initiative and gives people a place to learn more about you beyond a PDF. I share the exact template I used below in case you want to explore or pass it along.
I recently built a personal website to share my background and resume — you can check it out here: www.thekarlamora.com. I used Canva to build it and paid just $10 for the domain for the entire year. It’s simple, but it works and sometimes that’s all you need.
If you’d like to see the template I used (or share it with students or peers who might need something similar), here it is:
Canva Resume Website Template
One of the best parts of building my site was getting inspired by others. A student recently sent me theirs and it included a video walk-through of their own resume and, honestly, I was amazed. It reminded me how much talent is out there and how important it is to create something — even if it’s not perfect. While I don’t have a personal video walk-through yet, I’d love to make one soon. If you have a favorite example or resource, I’d be excited to see it.
And I want to say something important. College is not the only path. Some of the most incredible people I have met never went to college or decided to leave early. They built their own paths and they are doing amazing things. If you are on a different journey, you still belong in every room you walk into. Your story matters just as much. Reach out to people who look like you, who come from where you come from, and who have taken unique paths. There is so much to learn from all kinds of experiences.
You do not need permission to dream big. You do not need to wait to be chosen. Whether you are just figuring things out or already making moves, I am proud of you. Keep showing up. You are already doing better than you think.
Here are some opportunities for high school and college students.ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっ
